Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the merging of an ancient art form with modern science. Acupuncture stimulates the body on multiple levels to produce a return to homeostasis or balance. At Wolfville Naturopathic Clinic we use high quality stainless steel disposable needles. Point combinations are chosen for clients based on their presenting patterns, and their comfort levels. Both local and distal points are often selected, to stimulate the flow of energy (Qi). Great care is taken in all aspects of the therapy, and proper antiseptic and insertion techniques are used.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic medical system developed several thousands of years ago (2,500 to 5,000 depending on written records). It is a system based on the cycles and patterns that the Chinese observed within nature, within their communities and finally within their own bodies. Today these modalities are being used in conjunction with physician directed medical treatments to provide quality holistic health care.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has many modalities including:

Acupuncture – The insertion of disposable needles into acupuncture point to stimulate or tonify the body.
Chinese Herbs – Classical patent formulas, or individually developed herb combinations that can be administered in tablet, tincture, or powdered form; and for those with a strong will – in tea form also!
Tui Na – Using techniques such as: pressure, rubbing, tapping, grasping, and pulling to manipulate the flow of Qi (energy, or vital force) within the body.
“Food Cures” – Foods that can help increase the circulation and nourish the body, or that can help eliminate mucus/dampness, heat or cold.
Qi Gong – Breathing and movement that helps to promote circulation and nourish the body. From Qi Gong came many sub-sets of techniques including the highly popular Tai Chi.
